Bruichladdich distillery, producers of The Botanist Islay dry gin, has just announced the addition of two barrel aged expressions to the lineup. The Scottish distillery is best known for producing some of the world’s best single malt whisky, giving the distillery staff access to over 200 different types of casks.
The two new spirits showcase The Botanist’s signature 22 wild, hand-foraged Islay botanicals in a new light, shaped by wood and time. As The Botanist rests in cask, the flavor profile develops over time and picks up key cask notes. This process taps into a complexity and depth of characteristic of dark spirits that transcends the gin category.
Here are the details on both new expressions.
The Botanist Islay Cask Rested Gin: Matured for 6+ months in a blend of more than 15 American and European Oak Casks, the spirit is a soft and viscous liquid featuring notes of warm spices and candied citrus peel. On the palate, a symphony of botanicals is complemented by wood spice. The oak fades into fresh herbal notes with juniper, coriander, and citrus to finish.
The Botanist Islay Cask Aged Gin: Matured for 3+ years in a blend of more than 8 American and European Oak casks, the spirit is a creamy and viscous liquid featuring notes of fresh, ripe fruits, candied orange, and light juniper. On the palate, sweet fresh fruit, vanilla ice cream and toasted oak come to the fore. The finish features lingering tropical fruit with subtle hints of crushed coriander, candied orange, and fragrant juniper. The Botanist Islay Cask Aged Gin will only be available at bars and restaurants.
Both expressions are launching in the United States on March 1, 2024.
