I had some gomme syrup that I really need to finish up, so I decided to make an original drink that uses it. Having begun my annual viewing of Over the Garden Wall, I thought I could make a drink inspired by my favorite song from the soundtrack (youtube.com/watch?v=2fMsowmxKzA). I thought that using so many "old timey" ingredients was thematically appropriate, as was the general flavor profile.
The drink is surprisingly light given its strength. It begins with the flavor of apple pie from the Calvados and bitters, before moving onto the delicate vanilla and herbs of the vermouth. It finishes moderately bitter, and the nutty sherry flavor sings on the aftertaste.
