This cocktail from Erick Castro looks like it doesn’t work on paper and then you taste it and BLAMO! Mind Blown! And to achieve something new with ingredients we’ve seen paired over and over again in drinks is quite the achievement, it goes to show that you don’t need to reinvent the wheel to make something amazing. Attention to detail, inspired flavor pairing and a little elbow grease is all you need!
A Note on Substitutions: This cocktail is one of those that will be hard to sub ingredients into to approximate the same flavor. The Wray and Nephew can be subbed for something Like Rum Fire for sure but it cannot be subbed for just any overproof rum. Because the Amaro Montenegro is proprietary in flavor (as any amaro is) if you sub it, you may get great results but you are making a different cocktail, not that that’s a bad thing or anything!

why do you say, “shouldn’t work on paper”? i’m curious what the technically dubious combo here is
