Four Roses’ Limited Edition Small Batch bottlings have become one of the most sought after annual releases in the bourbon whiskey world. This year, as the distillery celebrates an important milestone, they are offering a special 135th Anniversary version of the Limited Edition Small Batch release. This bourbon features four of Four Roses’ famous bourbon recipes: A 12-year-old and a 16-year-old OESV recipe, which features notes of delicate fruit and caramel; a 14- year-old OESK recipe; and a 25-year-old OBSV recipe.
Tasting notes
On the nose, this bourbon presents a gorgeous bouquet of apple, honey, brown sugar, fresh cherry, and a hint of maple syrup. The palate is reminiscent of apple pie – crust and everything. It’s buttery, fruity and spicy with notes of cherry, raisin, and dried apricot. The finish is very smooth and spice forward with notes of clove, allspice, vanilla, orange zest.
Final Thoughts
This is an outstanding whiskey. The nose, palate and finish are all packed with the classic flavors enthusiasts love from Four Roses, but with even more balance and refinement. The youngest whiskey in this blend is 12 years old and the oldest is 25, which puts this on the older end of bourbons, but there are no unpleasant tannic or oaky notes to be found. Master Distiller Brent Elliott and the team at Four Roses have crafted a bourbon worthy of the distillery’s 135th anniversary.
