An exceptional Holiday Libation Brought to Us By The Talented Bartenders at The Aviary.
In truth I have been meaning to make some drinks from the Aviary in Chicago for a good long while. If you are not familiar, The Aviary is a cocktail lounge started by Grant Achatz of Alinea (also in Chicago) and they are known for incredibly creative presentations of both original and classic cocktails. Mostly they are a bit labor intensive to make for the home bartender although I have found quite a few recipes which are equally satisfying and not so so so complicated to make. If you do not know who Grant Achatz is, I will just say that he is an American chef who is known for his contributions to molecular gastronomy and what has been termed as “progressive cuisine.” He was featured on Chef’s Table Season One (streaming on Netflix) I am pretty sure that the drink recipes come from Aviary beverage director Micah Melton and luckily for all of us, they have a few books out so we can now faithfully recreate their amazing recipes at home! Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Scotch Whiskey Macallan 12 year
- .5 oz Jägermeister
- .25 oz Green Chartreuse
- .25 oz Root Beer Syrup
Glassware
- Rocks Glass
Root Beer Syrup
- 9.5 oz Dad's Old Fashioned Root Beer
- 4.5 oz Caster Sugar
Instructions
- Add ingredients to to stirring glass and stir to combine
- Pour cocktail into a larger bottle for smoking
- Smoke with Applewood using a Smoking Gun
- Pour into rocks Glass with Large Cube of Ice
- Stir until chilled
