I began taking an interest in cocktails nearly four years ago, and this was one of the first original recipes I developed. Greg from How to Drink was my go-to for learning the ropes, and after watching his Gin Whisper video, I decided to try making something with elderflower liqueur. I also wanted a tart balance but with less sharpness than that of lemon or lime. So I thought pure cranberry juice might be apt. The first attempt was too spirit forward, but the second nailed it! A simple, elegant three-ingredient cocktail that is exceedingly easy to whip up and has beautiful presentation with it’s crimson translusence. Not too sweet – just astringent enough to placate the taste buds. Personally I could drink these one after the other almost any evening. I call it the Cranberry Whisper as a nod to it’s origin.
Ingredients
- 37 ml gin Plymouth is my choice
- 37 ml 100% cranberry juice unsweetened
- 10 ml elderflower liqueur
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in mixing tin with ice.
- Shake for less than 10 seconds.
- Strain into chilled coupe or Nick and Nora glass
- No garnish.
- If care is taken to leave any cranberry juice sediment undisturbed, the drink will be perfectly translucent once air bubbles have divested
