I just like to mess around with ideas and wanted a signature cocktail for my home bar. Starting with the basic Manhattan, I substituted half the bourbon for a spiced rum. I have Jonah’s Curse on hand. I use Maker’s Mark because it also has vanilla notes. I add chocolate bitters and syrup to give it some additional sweetness and festive flavors. If you don’t want to deviate too far from a Manhattan stop there, but I’ve also added an egg white to give it that nice foam and creaminess.
Ingredients
- 1 oz bourbon
- 1 oz spiced rum
- .5 oz sweet vermouth
- .5 oz simple syrup or less to taste
- 5 dash chocolate bitters
- Optional egg white
Instructions
- Without egg, build and serve like a Manhattan.
- With egg, build like a sour.
- Dot 3 drops of the bitters on top of the foam.
- Serve in a chilled coupe
