If it wasn’t for the stylish neon sign featuring a pair of broken glasses, it would be easy to overlook LA’s newest cocktail bar, Bar CDMX. Tucked beneath LA institution Seven Grand and hailing from the Pouring With Heart family of bars, CDMX is set to celebrate its grand opening on August 31st, 2023.
Inspired by the fresh ingredients and vibrant cocktail culture of Mexico City, Bar CDMX offers up a selection of fresh, fruity and fun cocktails that celebrate Mexico’s most beloved spirits. Headed by Lead Bartender, Dante Chavez, who grew up in Oaxaca, Bar CDMX aims to take what’s special about a night on the town in Mexico City and bring it to LA.
Here’s what General Manager Travis Baetz has to say about the concept behind Bar CDMX: “While visiting Mexico City during Tales of the Cocktail, we spent evenings exploring the popular watering holes. Whether sipping concoctions with still burning cinnamon sticks at Xaman Bar or enjoying way too much Mezcal at my personal favorite, El Palenquito, we were met with such a rich warmth of welcoming that was so refreshing to experience. It’s that same warmth and electrifying energy that we want to bring home to Los Angeles to help spread the culture and beauty that is CDMX.”
As for the drinks, the Mezcal Paloma and Mango Mezcal Margarita are fun twists on the two most popular Mexican cocktails. Other drinks like the Pineapple Caipirinha and rum-forward Tropic Thunder are sure to be crowd-pleasers as well. The bar also offers a pool table and a choice selection of Spanish language versions of popular arcade games.
