Boys Bar Drive

A Reconstruction of One of My own Cocktails By German Bartender Maximillian Metzner!

Hi Leandro,
It took a while but I finally got to the postoffice and shipped you the bottle, that I had promised you.

First of all, let me say, that I really enjoy your content. You guys inspired me, to really step up my cocktail game, bith privately and at work.
What I just send you is a bottle of “Müller3” it is a local product from Dresden Germany (where I live).
Basically, what it is is a coffee-herbal Liquer. It is very rich, has a lot of different levels, Chocolaty, vanilla and coffee undertones and I hope you’ll like it as much as I do.

A little bit about me:
My Name is Max and I work in Dresden as a Head Bartender in “Boys Bar” (as you might guess, that’s the local gay Bar ;))
I’ve been working there for about a year after working in different event locations and although I’m the only straight person in the Team (and frequently the only straight guy there ^^), both the Team and the community have been nothing short of lovely from day one. Since about a year ago, I’d like to say we made a big step forward in in Cocktail making both in quality and creativity and I think that is, at Lear in part thanks to your awesome input.

Now to the drink:
I basically came up with it, when I was trying to recreate your recipe for a “Mulholland Drive“. So my Problem was, that our Bar does have neither Amaro Montenegro nor Mr. Black (since that is kind of difficult to obtain in Germany).
So I subbed it both out for the “Müller3” since it is basically something between a Coffee Liqueur and an Amaro. I also subbed out the Campari for Aperol since I always See Campari as Kind of a “Diva Spirit” meaning that, if You put Campari in a drink, the whole show tends to be about the Campari 😉 I left one Barspoon in it for its bitterness.
You can built this right in the glass (double rocks) and just stir it over a big Rock of Ice. The specs are as follows:

Here’s the Specs:
1oz of Gin
1oz of Aperol
1oz of Müller3
1 Barspoon of Campari

I would recommend a rather crisp but not too complex Gin. I use our workhorse Gin (Bombay Sapphire) but a citrus forward one should work as well.
I tend to garnish the drink with a flammed orange peel but just an orange Twist should work too.
I thought long and hard about a name for this drink. As a tribute to your recipe and as a top of the hat to my awsome colleagues Stefan, André, Duschi, Mario and Charly (whom I All Love dearly), I’d like to name it “Boys Bar Drive” 🙂
I’m curious, how you like it and looking forward to your Suggestion. If you’re ever in the Arena, we would be happy of You payed us a vistit. Have a nice time and say hello to Marius. You guys are doing a hell of a job . Keep it up!
Cheers
