The Edison is a bar located in the basement of the Higgins Building which was at one time LA’s very first power plant. This bar keeps that vision alive as a sort of steam punk homage to those bygone days.
This drink obviously takes its inspiration from the New York sour adding in a little vanilla for complexity and orange juice for depth. And of course a medium bodied fruity wine to play off the flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz Rum Mount Gay Black Barrel
- 1/2 oz Orange Liqueur Mandarine Napoleon
- 1/4 oz Orange Juice
- 1/2 oz Lime Juice
- 1/2 oz Vanilla Syrup
- 1 Egg white
Float
- Malbec Reduction see notes
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker except peels.
- Shake dry to emulsify the egg.
- Add a big rock of ice and a cheater cube.
- Shake until cheater cube has completely melted.
- Strain into a large format sour glass and float Malbec reduction.
- Enjoy!
Notes
Malbec Reduction is a wine reduction so you add the wine to a pot and over low heat evaporate the water until it is a syrup consistency

Great drink! Saw it on dour YouTube channel amd mixed it today. Love the Mandarine, orange and vanille n
notes the wine reduction float is just genius. Love a red wine or port wine float on my Greenwich Sour or Continental Sour, bit this one is another level.
